Since incorporating in 2003, Great North has been the fastest growing wellhead and frac company in Western Canada. Our formula is simple. Great North Wellhead & Frac is part of the Redco Group. Along with our sister companies, we are Western Canada’s leading, full-service provider of custom-manufactured wellheads and comprehensive field support.

In 2023, Great North was acquired by Dril-Quip based in Houston, Texas. Founded in 1981, Dril-Quip is a
global supplier of highly engineered equipment, innovative technologies, multi-national manufacturing
capabilities and extensive field service support. This acquisition grants Great North access to expanded
manufacturing opportunities, an extensive engineering team and a global supply chain footprint. For Dril-
Quip, this is a significant milestone as it expands their market offerings and geographical presence,
presenting new growth opportunities to further strengthen their position in the industry.

Our Team

Caren Steele​

OPERATIONS DIRECTOR​

Caren got her start in the wellhead industry in 2000 working as a Project Engineer. She took on many operational and technical sales roles supporting the shale and heavy oil markets before joining Great North in 2017. Caren has been managing the Great North business operations since 2023 and prior thereto was Sales Manager of Great North. Caren holds a P.Eng designation and has been a member of APEGA since 2006.

Greg Dowell

Finance Director

Greg joined Great North in 2019, with more than 20 years in finance roles in the energy industry. He plays a key leadership role at Great North supporting the growth of the company by drawing on his experience in the operational finance, strategy, treasury and financial reporting. He has a chartered Professional Accountant designation.

Jim Lovin

Operations Manager

Jim began his career in operations in 2005, developing expertise across many disciplines in the wellhead sector, including field service, asset management, manufacturing, and senior leadership. He has many years of experience working with major wellhead OEMs. In 2018, Jim joined Great North and manages the operations in Edmonton and eight other branch operations across Western Canada.

Steve Green

Regional operations manager

Stephen began his career in the energy industry in 1999. Stephen has an extensive background in manufacturing and procurement logistics. After some time in the industry, he has been able to work his way up from machine shop manager to the Reginal Operations Manager. Stephen has been with Great North Equipment since 2006 and continues to support all facets of the business.

Brendon Grube

Sales Manager

Brendon began his career in 2007 as a field service technician at an independent wellhead company.  Over the past 17 years he has went on to manage three Great North field stores through Alberta and Saskatchewan, and most recently was in the role of Key Account Manager in Calgary.  Those multiple career moves have supported him in developing a high level of expertise in both operations and sales across the western Canadian Sedimentary basin.

Matthew Webster

Engineering Manager

Matthew brings more than 20 years of wellhead and pressure control product design, development, and engineering management experience to the team. After Matthew graduated from the University of Alberta, he held several roles in the wellhead industry including Product Manager, Engineering Manager, Quality Manager, and Design Engineer. Matthew has been a professional member of APEGA since 2002 and joined Great North in 2021. 

David Wootton​

DIRECTOR - INTERNATIONAL OPERATIONS​

Mr. Wootton has been Director of International Operations since 2023. Prior thereto he was President of the Redco Group since 2017. Mr Wootton has more than 37 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He has held numerous senior management positions including General Manager Canada for a multinational surface wellhead and frac organization.
